I agree. I have been reporting this issue for over a year now. Also, they did something to the timing of the lights at Summerhill and Railroad Canyon, and now it is WORSE! Now it takes 4 or 5 light cycles to get from KFC to the signal light if you need to turn left. If you are on Railroad Canyon, it takes longer now too. It took me 10 minutes to go from the light by Wal-Greens to the turn left at the light by In-N-Out. That is ridiculous and we have had MANY near misses and people running the red lights at all the lights between Mission Trail and Summerhill as they are impatient and frustrated. Not to mention the backup on the freeway to get off there now. This is forcing people to exit at Main and go down Franklin at higher rates of speed than posted.
@Cin, the Franklin route is what I take now too, it's way faster even though the speed limit is 25mph at some points.
It's kind of ridiculous that the city can't figure this one out. Short term solution with the timing of the lights isn't going to fix the issue long term though. We need a bypass exit for the canyon lake traffic, that won't interfere with local lake elsinore traffic...or roundabouts but I'm affraid Americans aren't skilled at yielding and if they stop, it'll just be worse.
The whole set of intersections there are poorly designed and the signal timing schedules need some severe adjustments. Have seen many people sitting at the intersections with pen and paper documenting the lights timing and still nothing has been done except the city replacing one left turn light with a regular signal light causing major confusion and furthering traffic congestion at Grape st and railroad canyon.
@Casey: I'm presuming you're referring to a dedicated right turning lane. It might be violation of VC 22101D, but could try arguing it in court otherwise. $234.
In this particular intersection mess though, going straight from a dedicated LEFT-turning lane is more common. This is considered running a red light, since the "straight" lane has a red light when the dedicated left has an advance green; or vice versa. Even when the traffic going straight is stopped, the drivers considering pulling into a dedicated left turning lane end up running the left-turn-advanced red light, which is a clear violation of VC 22101D, and not a beat-able offence.
Maybe that did allow somebody to move up from being stuck in the middle of the intersection behind them, but safe or helpful doesn't mean legal, as they'll find out a few days later when they check their mail.
this is the result of professionals with their heads up their (you know where ). lets build more homes way ahead of the means to handle the traffic. not enough road between lights to accommodate a large number of vehicles along with traffic turning right on red filling in openings in the lane leaving no room for the left turn traffic. Round about's are a joke if they are not very big ones. My take on this is to let the traffic (say south bound 15 - Railroad off ramp) give them the green all the way through east bound and left turn to in&out . same for north bound 15 all the way through to the stadium, then do the same for the surface streets. adjust the length of time for the time of day and the amount of traffic on the surface streets. After all all this traffic is headed to their homes.
